Images #5 and 6 are different shots of the same
kitchen, which was featured in the March/April 2008
of Signature Kitchens & Baths Magazine. The
homeowner’s didn’t like anything about their
existing kitchen. The space was broken up and not
well organized. The mudroom/pantry area had limited
storage and a peninsula with overhead cabinets
separated the kitchen from the dining area and
totally blocked any natural light.
The remodel was a full gut. The existing dark cabinetry was
replaced with UltraCraft Sakura Cherry Thermofoil
cabinets. The homeowner’s wish list also called for
a small breakfast bar with seating for three, more
natural light, better ventilation, and contemporary
styling. Since aisle space was tight, in planning
the breakfast bar that wrapped around the end of the
island, the design team opted for a 1/2" thick clear
Starfire glass countertop that floats above the
granite island top. It is supported by stainless
steel standoffs along the perimeter of the island
with one large custom stainless bracket supporting
the deepest part of the end curve without taking up
any floor space. This glass top helps maintain the
light, open feeling of the new kitchen as well as
allowing for views of the granite beneath. |
